Robert Dean Plato

Robert Dean Plato

Master Sergeant Robert Plato was a member of the 5th Special Forces Group, MACV-SOG, Command and Control North, FOB1, Phu Bai, RSVN. He served with the Hatchet Force and was killed during a battle with NVA forces on May 20, 1968 and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. John Hartley Robertson was on the first helicopter tasked to Hill 1095 to extract the MACV-SOG team and retrieve the body of Master Sergeant Plato. Sadly, MSG Plato left behind his wife and four children. Mrs. Plato, who originally hailed from Kyushu, Japan, gave birth to their fifth child just four months after MSG Plato's death. His name appears on Panel 64E Line 7 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial – one line above John Hartley Robertson.
